Just after the spectacular Taj Balloon Festival 2016, the majestic and vast hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh are again ready to invite everyone to cherish the gorgeous kingdom of birds here at the International Bird Festival 2016. During the winters the state comes alive with its rich avifauna and exceptionally diverse wildlife, just waiting to be discovered.

In an attempt to promote U.P. as an international bird-watching destination, the UP Ecotourism wing under the aegis of UP Forest has organized a three-day international festival on birds from 2nd to 4th December 2016 at the National Chambal Sanctuary near Agra.

In a bid to highlight the unique biodiversity of the state, U.P. Chief Minister Shri Akhilesh Yadav took this initiative in 2015. The splendid Bird Festival is now in its second year and the exuberance has not diminished so far. Organized on the grounds of Chambal Safari Lodge, merely 45 minutes away from Taj Mahal, the fest is a great introduction to the paradise of the astounding Chambal Valley where around 330 species of birds make their permanent or temporary home throughout the year.

Spend a wild weekend at Chambal celebrating the valley’s wintering flocks of sarus cranes, darters, pochards, pintails and of course the elegant Indian skimmer. You would definitely relish the silence of the striking forest, broken every now and then by the shrill cry of birds or beasts.

The festival in 2015 attracted the ornithologists, photographers, birding enthusiasts, and wildlife artists from across the countries like USA, UK, Australia, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. It also fascinated visitors from local schools, colleges, institutions, as well as nature and wildlife conservation agencies.

The UP Bird Festival is definitely one of the ‘not to be missed’ events on the International Birding calendar. The combination of great weather, fantastic birds, wildlife and memorable moments cannot be beaten. This annual International Birding Festival offers birders and other nature lovers a complete program of field trips, talks by prominent ornithologist from around the globe, workshops by professional photographers, art shows by renowned artists and a bird ringing station.

So join this feather fest that raises awareness for bird/wildlife conservation and celebrate the vibrant facets of birding in the heartland of India.

As the festival promises to be more exhilarating and exciting this year, mark your calendar now to get a taste of the rare exotic birds and raptors, some of the finest scenic places in the state and much more!
